  What is the Pharmacovigilance ?

Pharmacovigilance is a medical specialty for the detection, evaluation, understanding and prevention of adverse effects and any other problems related to the use of the drug. The main objective of Pharmacovigilance is to improve patient safety through the continuous monitoring of the health impact of drug use and the continuous assessment of their benefit / risk ratio.

Why do we do Pharmacovigilance?

Once placed on the market, a drug leaves the safe and protected scientific environment of clinical trials and becomes legally « offered » to the general public. At this stage, however, most drugs have only been tested for safety in the short term and on a limited number of carefully selected subjects; It is for all these reasons that it is essential that all medicinal products be monitored for safety under actual conditions of use after they have been placed on the market; This is the important role of Pharmacovigilance.
